Starting Wholesale on Shopify: Non-Plus Plans vs. Plus

Written by Kitsune

Share

Shopify's B2B features let business customers order at wholesale prices on Basic, Grow, and Advanced. B2B means business-to-business commerce, including wholesale and sales to companies. Starter and Retail are not eligible.

Before choosing a plan, define how you need to separate prices and products, rather than starting with the number of customer companies. Non-Plus plans apply shared selling terms through Shopify Markets. Plus is an option if you need to assign price lists directly to individual companies or use deposits and partial payments. Official B2B features by plan

This guide is for ecommerce teams starting wholesale on Shopify or reviewing their existing wholesale operations. The specifications were checked against official sources on October 16, 2026.

Define your selling terms first

In Shopify B2B, you register business customers as companies and manage their branches or delivery destinations as company locations. The people placing orders are associated with the relevant company and location.

A catalog defines the products customers can buy and their prices. It is not a feature for displaying a printed catalog. Use B2B markets in Shopify Markets to group customers who share products and prices. B2B setup guide; B2B and Markets

Use your current price lists and billing rules to answer the following questions before comparing plans.

DecisionWhat to define
ProductsWill you sell the same products as retail, or have wholesale-only products?
Wholesale pricesWill prices be shared by all companies, vary by group, or be negotiated for each company?
Order quantitiesDo you need minimums, maximums, or purchasing increments such as full cases?
PaymentDo you need payment at checkout, payment by a later due date, or a deposit?
Order reviewWill orders be accepted immediately, or reviewed and confirmed by a staff member?
Store setupWill wholesale share a store with retail, or use a dedicated store?

For example, adding wholesale customers does not automatically mean adding catalogs if all companies buy the same products at the same prices. Conversely, even with only a few customers, the assignment method matters if each company needs its own price list assigned directly.

Comparing non-Plus plans and Plus

Company and contact management, quantity rules, volume pricing, and payment terms are available on Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. The main differences are below.

“Available” assumes that the feature's individual requirements are met. B2B vaulted cards require Shopify Payments. B2B catalogs on non-Plus plans require the new Shopify Markets. Requirements by plan

Which checkout changes are available?

Checkout is where buyers enter their shipping address, choose a payment method, and place an order. The requirements for changing checkout depend on the page and the method used.

ChangeMain plan requirements
Adjust the logo, colors, and fontsAvailable on Basic and higher
Add compatible apps to the thank you page, order status page, or customer accountsAvailable on Basic and higher
Add UI extensions to the information, shipping, or payment pagesRequires Plus
Use Markets to customize the display for different customer groupsAvailable on Advanced and higher. The added features' own restrictions still apply
Display payment or delivery methods based on conditionsCan be supported on Basic and higher through public apps and other available methods. Check app and regional requirements

UI extensions add app content or input fields at designated places on a page. Access to market-specific customization on Advanced does not mean you can freely add UI extensions to the information, shipping, or payment pages. Checkout customization requirements; UI extension plan requirements

The limit of three on non-Plus plans is the total number of active catalogs assigned across all B2B markets. It does not mean three per market. Assigning three to one market already reaches the limit.

Direct catalog assignment to companies and locations is available only on Plus. Non-Plus plans apply catalogs through B2B markets. Setting up catalogs in Markets

The following examples illustrate how to assess a plan. They do not describe results from a particular store.

ExampleWhat to consider
Apply shared products and prices to wholesale customersConsider a B2B market and a shared catalog on a non-Plus plan
Vary products and prices by groups such as regionsCheck whether Markets can define the groups you need and whether the total number of active catalogs is three or fewer
Assign negotiated prices directly to individual companiesConsider direct assignment to companies and locations on Plus
Use four or more active B2B market catalogsConsider Plus

Having no more than three price structures does not guarantee that a non-Plus plan will meet your needs. Also check whether Markets can group your business customers in the way you require.

Catalogs support an overall price adjustment, fixed prices for individual products, and volume pricing. A product's fixed price takes precedence over the overall adjustment. Rules also apply when multiple catalogs are assigned, so sign in as a business customer to check the actual prices shown. Catalog pricing

Payment terms and daily order management

You can set payment terms for each company location. For example, Net 30 means payment is due within 30 days of the order date. This differs from a rule such as closing invoices at the end of one month and requiring payment at the end of the next, so do not assume your current billing rules translate directly.

Setting payment terms does not automatically charge a card when payment is due. Decide who will check payments and charge cards. If you want to automate card charges, configure that separately in Shopify Flow. B2B payment terms

Features for collecting a deposit at checkout, accepting partial payments, or requesting payment per fulfillment require Plus. Non-Plus plans can still accept orders as drafts for review before confirmation.

For bank transfers within Japan, consider a manual payment method together with a process for confirming receipt. ACH in the B2B feature list is a US bank debit method; it does not automate Japanese bank transfers. Payment and shipping setup; ACH requirements

How to get started

If B2B and retail share a store, include retail purchases in your checks as well as wholesale orders. Set up companies, prices, and payment conditions before inviting business customers to use the store. Official setup checklist

  1. Decide whether to share a store with retail or use a dedicated wholesale store. If you already use a B2B app, identify where company data, prices, and order processing are managed.
  2. Go to Customers → Companies to register companies and locations, then configure the contacts who will place orders and their permissions.
  3. Go to Markets → Catalogs to set products, prices, minimum quantities, and purchasing increments. On non-Plus plans, assign the catalogs to B2B markets.
  4. Enable business customers to sign in to new customer accounts. If your store uses legacy accounts, also review our customer account migration checklist.
  5. Configure payment terms, payment methods, shipping rates, and whether to accept orders as drafts.
  6. Use a test company and customer to check the process from displayed prices through order handling, then send customers instructions.

You can also keep retail customers on legacy accounts and share the new account URL only with B2B customers. Decide separately which customers will switch and when.

Use quantity rules for minimum order quantities and increments such as full cases. Volume pricing changes the unit price when customers buy in larger quantities. You can combine both. Quantity rules and volume pricing

Checks before inviting customers

PerspectiveWhat to check
Wholesale buyerCan they order for the company and location they are responsible for?
Wholesale buyerDo products, prices, purchasing increments, payment terms, and shipping rates match the agreed terms?
Order processing staffCan they review drafts, confirm orders, check payments, and handle fulfillment?
Retail customers and visitors who are not signed inDo they see retail products and prices, and can they make a normal purchase?

Shopify also recommends placing an order with a test company and customer before inviting business customers. On a live store, changing real payment settings for testing also affects retail customers, so decide how and when to test in advance. Testing your B2B setup

Frequently asked questions

Can retail and wholesale share the same store?

Yes. Business customers sign in with an account associated with their company and order using the configured products, prices, and payment terms. However, you still need to configure settings such as wholesale-only product availability and payment methods. Creating a catalog does not automatically separate every selling condition. Setting up a store for both retail and B2B

Can we remove our existing B2B app?

First check which functions built-in features can replace. List the work the app handles, including company and price migration, quotes, invoices, and accounting integrations. Built-in features may not replace everything. Wait until you have checked prices and order processing after migration before uninstalling it.

When should we consider Plus?

Consider Plus if you need to assign catalogs directly to companies, use four or more active B2B market catalogs, collect deposits or partial payments, or add UI extensions to the main checkout pages. Compare the work you need to do with each plan's features, rather than deciding from company count or revenue alone.
